Why publish the book serially?
Serial publishing has a long history. Harriet Beecher Stowe, Dickens and Twain used it. More recently [!], magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, and others have used it. In this case, it allows for publicity about the book prior to publication in paper. It also allows comments on the book earlier than when in full manuscript.
How many chapters are written, and when will they be published?
As of January 2014, 55 chapters have been written. This probably will be about 60% of the book. Chapters will be placed on the site as quickly as the author can copyread them.
